Riverside Majestic Hotel – Kuching

Riverside Majestic Hotel Review (2025): Is the River View Worth the Price?

When planning a trip to Kuching, the Riverside Majestic Hotel is an option that cannot be ignored. It sits right on the scenic waterfront, attached to a shopping complex, and promises a 5-star experience. But with two distinct wings—the newer Astana Wing and the established Puteri Wing—and prices that fluctuate wildly, is this hotel truly the best value-for-money choice for your Sarawak trip?

As locals who have personally stayed and reviewed both sections, we cut through the confusing foreign reviews to give you the truth on which wing to choose, the actual cost of a river view, and where to book the cheapest and most reliable deal.

“Its location is its superpower. It’s everyone’s dream to have the best hotel location! You can literally roll out of bed and walk two minutes to the Waterfront to find the best Gula Apong ice cream stand. That’s a huge win over the hotels located further into the city.”

Astana vs. Puteri Wing: Which Side Has the Better Deal?

The biggest question travellers ask: what’s the difference between the two wings? Most first-time visitors don’t know about this. I did not know it at first until I had a conversation with other guests.

  • Puteri Wing (The Classic): This is the original, recently renovated wing. Rooms are typically larger (around 34-36 sq m). The main draw here is the River View rooms (Premium King/Twin), which offer the best, unobstructed panoramic view of the Sarawak River and Astana across the water—the view you saw on our Facebook feed!. You can just walk down to the waterfront to enjoy the brisk walks or take some Insta photographs. Social media craze, love this !
  • Astana Wing (The Modern): This wing tends to be slightly newer and more modern in design. Rooms are slightly smaller (around 28-30 sq m). While it still feels premium, the river views here are sometimes partially obstructed by the Puteri wing or surrounding buildings. But this doesn’t stop you for this hotel, as any time you can still enjoy the Sarawak River scene by hanging out at the Sape Restaurant area.

Sarawak Deals Tip: If the price difference is less than RM50, always choose the Puteri Wing River View. You won’t regret waking up to that view.

Location, Parking & Halal Food (What Locals Know)

FeatureSarawak Deals Insight
Location9.3/10. Unbeatable. Connected directly to Riverside Shopping Complex. Cross the road for the Waterfront. You can walk all day to many parts of Kuching City – to souvenir shops, Churches, mosques on the river, Shopping centres, Open-Air Night market for food, Sarawak River Front strolling, and many other places – They are just a walking distance.
ParkingFree Self-Parking for guests on site (no reservation needed). A huge bonus for those driving from Brunei or West Malaysia.
Caution: navigating the parking way is hard if you drive a large or longer vehicle such as Hilux, ford 4×4 etc.
Halal FoodExcellent. The hotel’s Cafe Majestic serves great local Halal cuisine. For cheap, famous local food, the Topspot Food Court (famous seafood) and several Halal noodle stalls are just a 5-10 minute walk.
BreakfastWidely praised for having excellent local selections (especially the Mee Kolok and Sarawak Laksa). Check prices, as it can cost RM45-RM65 per adult if not included in your deal.
You can even just walk to the left, right or back of the hotel to find outside breakfast.

The Final Verdict: Is Riverside Majestic Worth It?

Yes, absolutely. Riverside Majestic is one of Kuching’s best value propositions. You get a central, high-quality experience with free parking and immediate access to everything—a rare combination.

In-House Dining: Is the Hotel Buffet Worth the Upgrade?

The Price List Table (Hotel Dining)

Hotel Dining ItemLocationEstimated Price (RM)Sarawak Deals Value Assessment
Breakfast Buffet (Adult)Majestic/Horizon/SapeRM 46 – RM 65+ (Range based on included/on-site price)Value depends entirely on the deal. Check the room rate with breakfast against the separate fee.
Afternoon Hi-Tea BuffetSape Restaurant (Astana Wing)RM 75.00+ (Adult)A popular indulgence. Great for families, but confirm the latest price, as promotions run constantly.
Korean/Set Lunch BoxSape/Majestic RestaurantRM 26.00+ per setGood value for a quick, air-conditioned business lunch option.
Average Set Dinner (Cantonese)River Palace RestaurantRM 100 – RM 150+ (per person)High-end dining. Better for special occasions than daily meals.

The Sarawak Deals Tip: The in-house options at the Riverside Majestic are excellent, but they are priced for convenience. For daily meals, walk 5-10 minutes to the nearby food courts. You can cover two days of local meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) for the price of one hotel buffet. From the hotel area, you can see a convenience store such as the 7-Eleven.

Hotel Dining ItemEstimated Price (RM)Sarawak Deals Value Assessment
Cold Latte / Hot CoffeeRM 17.00High, but expected for 5-star convenience. This one coffee equals two full bowls of local Kolo Mee nearby.
Bottled Water (500ml)RM 5.00Buy in the shop downstairs or outside the hotel before checking in to save 50%.
Fresh JuicesRM 18.00Great for quality, but budget-minded travelers should look for fresh-cut fruit stalls at the nearby waterfront.
Well-Being BeveragesRM 21.00 – RM 33.00Pure indulgence. Compare this to the RM8.00 Laksa and choose wisely! Not that not all Laksa meals are equal. Different operators may have used different pastes that also bring a slightly different taste.

It is a place that is convenient for almost anything you need.
